Last Friday Night April 17th 2014 marked a banner night of fights at Bellator 117 which took place at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs Iowa. The card featured the semifinals of the lightweight tournament which featured Invictus Bros stand-out fighter Marcin Held vs the dangerous and undefeated (11-0) Derek Anderson. We are thrilled to report that after 2 rounds of exciting action Marcin is now the 1 in Derek Anderson's current record of 11-1! The first round featured some fast paced exchanges on the feet before Marcin was able to take Derek to ground and begin to work for a finish using one of his signature leg locks. Around the 3 minute mark it looked as though Marcin was going to be able to finish the fight with a heel hook but Derek showed the world how tough he really is by refusing to tap despite feeling his knee pop from the hold and was able to escape the maneuver and survive until end of the round.
The second round opened with more stand up action where Marcin was able to display his ever improving stand up when he connected with a hard right hook that dropped Anderson to the canvas. Derek recovered, got back to his feet and then brought the fight to the ground once again with a take down of his own. Marcin kept his composure and worked to the Butterfly Guard position where he was able to lock in a triangle choke, finish the fight and pick up the 10th submission victory of his career! The finish also marked his third straight victory as Marcin advances to Bellator MMA Lightweight Tournament Final against Patricky "Pitbull" Freire on May 17th airing live on Spike TV from Memphis Tennessee.
The fight will air as one of the premier bouts on the undercard of Bellator's first ever pay per view, an event that features almost too many outstanding fights to name: the trilogy fight of Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez, Rampage Jackson vs King Mo Lawal, Tito Ortiz vs Alexander Schlemenko-Put simply this is an event that is not to be missed! Be sure to tune in to Spike TV to witness history as Marcin fights in the Lightweight Tournament Finals and order the Pay Per View! We will see you in Memphis!
